Africa: Slackers

Saturday, June 11, 2005

Finance ministers from the world’s richest countries have gathered in London to approve a debt relief deal to help Africa’s poor.

UK Chancellor Gordon Brown on Friday expressed optimism that a debt deal would be done

The finance ministers are spending Saturday morning discussing the outline plan from the UK and US to write off the debts of 18 highly-indebted countries in Africa, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said. He added that the plan would "cancel 100% of the World Bank, African Development Bank and IMF debt" - suggesting the US may have dropped objections to including IMF debts.

UK Chancellor Gordon Brown on Friday expressed optimism that a debt deal would be done, saying that there was the "political will of the richest countries to move forward". He also promised that it would be "the biggest debt settlement the world has ever seen".

But who really cares about Africa? The only people who really care are just some celebrates and lefty protestors, socialist countries like England and France and perhaps maybe Africans. I know to socialist countries like England and France, working for a living is unheard of, but f they don’t want to be poor that’s what they should do. It is by hard work and rugged determination that Africa will solve its own problems.

What Africa needs is not more aid, but more free trade opportunities.

What Africa needs is not more aid, but more free trade opportunities. Take China for instance, they have gone from poor country hung up on idealism to a much richer country by converting themselves into a factory to make cheap plastic merchandise for Wal-Mart. The governments of these nations could even set up corporately sponsored work houses for the poor, where they could go and work in exchange for room and board. Now that’s how a country maintains its dignity.

No good has every come out of giving people money. They just want more money. Just look at Europe. We rebuilt a good chunk of Europe after World War 2 and now they just want more money for Africa. If we give all that money to Africa, we will just lose their respect.
